Energy firm launches windfarm appeal

E.ON has announced it is appealing against Midlothian council's decision to not grant permission for a new windfarm.

The leading energy firm's application to construct an 18-turbine site at Auchencorth Moss was originally rejected earlier this year, but the company has undertaken several reviews to improve its proposals.

According to the company, the project would create enough electricity to power 24,000 homes and generate investment of £5 million in the local region.

E.ON's onshore origination manager, Darren Cuming, claimed that the site was "the ideal location" for the project.

He added: "We are now satisfied that our proposal will comply with Scottish government and local plan policy, with minimal impact on the environment and the local population."

Earlier this month, E.ON announced that it has increased the cost of its gas and electricity by 26 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.

The energy company claimed that rises in the cost of wholesale energy forced it to make the decision.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18754709-ADNFCR
